HERE’S WHAT “PLUS – SIZE” REALLY MEANS – FASHION BRANDS, TAKE A NOTE

In the non-fashion place, the word “PLUS SIZE” is used to represent anyone who is size 16 and above. Brands and designers take much more freedom with the label. Also, curious to win a symbol of “unclassified” and to capture a part of the plus size market — predicted to have a worldwide worth of $194 billion annually — particular people of the business are swinging recklessly with the answer.
In 2020, NEW YORK based model gave her statement to a digital publication that a modelling agency she had worked with defined her as “PLUS – SIZE,” regardless of the fact that she was a size 0. After being given an opportunity for a fresh contract by the New York agency, she claimed that she has undergone two different test shoots that were awaiting a plus-size model. Both clients were reasonably discontented when she came to the shoot.
The models that we see being used for plus size campaigns by brands, e-commerce, are not actually plus size but they are mid-sized. Fashion brands use the mid-size models for the straight size fashion campaigns. And use fat models to promote fat fashions. Brands do this so that they could extend the visibility to a range of different body types.
At times brands that use the plus size models are actually having an hourglass body, where waist is different from the hips. Now a days plus size people want to see how an outfit actually looks on someone that has a belly and big arms, that may not have a body shape.
They don’t want to see that on somebody who is size 12 with a flat stomach, a small waist, and big hips, because that body type doesn’t properly depict the plus-size shapes that are roaming around world currently.
If more than half of the women wear a particular size, it represents to reason that models should show that. However, after decades of the fashion industry praising the smallest and much supposedly “comparable” body shapes, scooping our way out of this effective prototype — and in turn, cultivating society that there is no one type of beauty — is going to take some time.
People should understand that every body type is unique in itself and everyone has right to choose how they want to look and how they want to live, without feeling guilty about that. So don’t listen what the society has to say about you. Just listen your soul and live for yourself!!
